Organic certification was obtained in 2006, however it was applied for in 2004 and took 18 months for the paperwork and the inspections to be completed. We just missed out on having the 2006 vintage wines certified as organic.

Organic Wine Mission

Duncan Harris started his Swan Valley winery journey in 1998, working on sustainable and organic principles.

Part of Duncan's organic wine mission involved reducing investment in his single vineyard. Duncan's red and white wines are grown by not using artificial additives and chemicals.

Reducing investment is at the core of Harris Organic’s single vineyard management philosophy; he likes slow food, the organic production process is vital to the health of the body and the environment.

Vertical intergration assists in producing his fine wines and brandy spirits that are all certified organic.
With Duncan's brandy spirit production of organic brandy he uses minimal artificial fossil fuel energy. For example he uses a wood fired pot still and has an underground cellar for natural cool wine storage.

While Duncan's brandy, natural wines and organic wines likewise matures in oak casks, and ultimately sealed in lightweight recyclable glass.

Of all the organic wineries in Australia, he uses very small amounts of grid electrical energy in producing a bottle of alcoholic wine compared with the Australian average. The carbon neutral status increased recently with the purchase of an electric lawnmower. It is amazing how much petrol the lawnmower used to mow the grounds every week.

He has a large amount of solar power excess to Duncan's needs and would love to have a set of batteries to be even more independent from the grid. He always make well balanced single-varietal, single vineyard wines from the ten different grape varieties.

Duncan's meticulously handcrafted red wines, are not fined or filtered with animal additives, that means they are natural vegan friendly. He are able to produce the only certified organic port wines in Australia as we are self sufficient in organic brandy spirit production.

Organic Natural Wines - Australia

Harris Winery produces a range of organic natural wines in a traditional method; Duncan Harris the natural winemaker makes these natural wines and natural red wines from the organic grapes grown on the certified organic property in Perth at Duncan's Swan Valley winery. He make a meticulously handcrafted traditional method natural white wine called "blanc de blanc" from chardonnay and a soft vintage natural red wine from shiraz. Blanc de blanc means "white of whites".

These are natural wines made exclusively from white grapes, in this case, chardonnay. These are made with time honoured methods where the wine is bottled on the premises. Serve chilled to your family and friends for your organic wine enjoyment.

He makes a traditional organic Pisco from white wine and a soft brandy too.
